About The Position

The Assistant Director will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the People and Culture (P&C) department, ensuring legal and labor compliance and implementation of the organization’s mission and talent strategy. The Assistant Director is also responsible for overseeing all day-to-day functions of the People & Culture Office. Acts as a team builder and supports all leaders and colleagues, ensuring company policies, Fairmont Century Plaza operating and service standards are followed, colleague engagement is high and financial goals are met.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Human Resources leadership capacity
  • Prior experience working in the hospitality industry, specifically within luxury hotel brands.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. employment laws, including California State Law
  • Experienced working in both union and non-union settings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with HRIS software (such as Dayforce).
  • High emotional intelligence, discretion with confidential information, and strong conflict-resolution abilities.
  • A passion for service in Luxury Hospitality while possessing strong financial acumen and ability to understand strategic financial planning and budgeting.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, conflict-resolution, and strategic-thinking skills.
  • Staying calm when assisting colleagues in escalated situations, and knowing what questions to ask and how to support, and knowing when to seek help when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
  • Plan, lead, develop, coordinate, and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Administer or oversees the administration of P&C programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Identify staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Monitor and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Manage the financial issues for the People & Culture budget including benefits, labor & salary reports and plan cost effective events within the People & Culture budget guidelines.
  • Gifted in building authentic relationships with our guests and colleagues, tuning into what they need and always going the extra mile to Make Special Happen.
  • Work well under pressure, juggling tasks and prioritizing, so that you consistently deliver to a high standard.
  • Assist Departmental Leaders and Senior Managers with the development of specific action plans to address issues and concerns identified in colleague feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with Accor/Fairmont policy and local legislation in all aspects of the People & Culture function.
  • Communicates eligibility, enrollment, and participation in all applicable benefit plans, including coordination of benefit information seminars to all colleagues.
  • Facilitates all short-term disability, long-term disability, FMLA, Leave of Absences and Workers Compensation claims.
  • Working knowledge of CBA agreements within the Hotel. Supports leaders to understand CBA agreements as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
