About The Position

Under the direction of the Director of Patient Financial Services, the Assistant Director of Patient Financial Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the hospital business office. This position focuses on optimizing the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) process, ensuring timely billing, maximizing collections, and maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate will balance technical expertise in medical billing and insurance (Medicare, Medicaid, and private payers) with strong interpersonal skills to lead a diverse team and improve the overall patient financial experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of medical billing, coding (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and claims processing
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, CMS regulations, and healthcare compliance standards
  • In-depth understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer reimbursement
  • Strong analytical (reporting and revenue forecasting) and financial management skills
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Proficiency with hospital billing systems and EHR platforms (e.g., Oracle /Cerner; EPIC)
  • Payor Portals / Electronic Billing/Omin-pro and Epaces

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily activities of the billing, follow-up, and collections departments to ensure workflows are efficient and targets are met.
  • Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as Days in Accounts Receivable (AR), clean claim rates, and denial percentages to identify and resolve bottlenecks
  • Ensure all billing practices adhere to HIPAA, CMS regulations, and Joint Commission standards. Regularly audit accounts for accuracy and integrity
  • Recruit, train, and mentor staff. Conduct performance evaluations and implement professional development programs to keep the team updated on changing coding and billing regulations
  • Serve as a point of escalation for complex payer issues and manage relationships with third-party collection agencies or early-out vendors
  • Prepare and present monthly financial reports to the Director of Patient Accounts or CFO, highlighting trends in cash flow and bad debt
