About The Position

We are searching for an energetic, professional and compassionate Assistant Director of Nursing who can provide residents with routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan and as directed by supervisors. This role involves assisting the Director of Nursing in managing the day-to-day functions of the nursing services department, ensuring compliance with regulations, and collaborating with various professionals to provide exceptional care to residents.

Requirements

  • Nursing degree (RN or LPN/LVN) from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility or other related health care facility
  • Six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • Current unencumbered active license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the state of Texas
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served
  • Be a supportive team member, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team concept
  • Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public
  • Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities
  • Possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care
  • Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents
  • Willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the day-to-day functions of the nursing services department.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a nursing services organizational structure.
  • Work with the Minimum Data Set/Resident Assessment Instrument (MDS/RAI) Coordinator to schedule, conduct, and submit resident assessments.
  • Allocate resources efficiently while ensuring residents obtain their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals, consultants, and organizations.
  • Coordinate with other resident services to ensure continuity of resident care.
  • Read and interpret long-term care regulations and requirements of participation.
  • Assist in the development of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in obtaining staffing information.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and updating the resident’s written discharge plan.
  • Develop and periodically update nursing services objectives and statements of philosophy.
  • Ensure reference material at nurses’ stations is current.
  • Monitor Quality Measure Reports.
  • Participate in facility surveys (inspections).
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) program.
  • Conduct administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting.
  • Serve on, participate in, and attend various committees of the facility in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled reviews of the discharge plans.
  • Schedule, attend, and participate in Care Plan Committee meetings.
  • Serve on the QAPI Committee as directed.
  • Ensure that direct nursing care is provided by qualified personnel.
  • Greet newly admitted residents and escort them to their rooms.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules.
  • Participate in the interviewing and selection of residents for admission.
  • Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
  • Provide the Director of Nursing with information relative to resident needs and department capabilities.
  • Report medication errors to the Director of Nursing.
  • Report problem areas to the Director of Nursing and assist in developing corrective action.
  • Schedule daily rounds to observe residents and ensure nursing needs are met.
  • Ensure that staff members provide care reflecting resident wishes.
  • Participate in the preliminary and comprehensive assessments of resident nursing needs.
  • Participate in the development of a written person-centered care plan for each resident.
  • Encourage resident and family participation in care plan development and review.
  • Assist the Staff Development Coordinator in planning and conducting in-service training.
  • Attend continuing education programs.
  • Provide leadership training.
  • Ensure that all nursing services personnel follow established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all personnel wear and/or use safety equipment.
  • Ensure that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
  • Ensure that adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) is available.
  • Ensure that nursing services personnel follow established infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of procedures for reporting hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the infection prevention and control program.
  • Report missing/illegible labels and safety data sheets (SDSs) to the Safety Compliance Officer.
  • Assist the Director of Maintenance in developing a preventive maintenance program for department equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure that appropriate SDSs are on file for hazardous chemicals.
  • Ensure that only trained and authorized personnel operate facility equipment.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of procedures for the safe operation of all nursing services equipment.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director of Nursing.
