About The Position

In the absence of or at the direction of the Director of Nursing, assists with planning, coordinating and directing the Nursing staff, ensuring that the system of care meets all Federal, State, and local regulations. Responsible for providing a system of care for residents in a manner and environment that promotes maintenance and enhancement of each resident’s quality of life and provides dignity and respect in full recognition of each resident’s individuality. Monitors policies, procedures, objectives and work performance standards while directing the Nursing personnel in a manner which ensures quality resident care. Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of Nursing.
  • South Carolina RN license in good standing required.
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience in a health care setting required.
  • Good listening skills required.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and excellent organizational skills; must be able to work independently and be self-directed.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Experience in a geriatric setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing long-term care facilities required.
  • MDS knowledge and knowledge of quality indicators, State Surveys preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists DON with all the functions of the Nursing Department.
  • In the absence of the DON, will interview, hire, discipline, and terminate employees according to facility policies.
  • Acts as the Infection Control Nurse within the Health Center.
  • Ensure adequate department staffing and work with DON to monitor work schedules.
  • Schedule and conduct daily rounds.
  • Coordinate resident care programs to include interdisciplinary assessment and resident care planning teams, restorative care program, and other programs necessary to ensure optimal care.
  • Act in the absences of or at the direction of the DON.
  • Attend Care Plan Rehab, Staff and other meetings as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local codes, laws and regulations governing the facility.
  • Supervises direct nursing care in the HealthCenter.
  • Administers direct nursing care when more than routine care is indicated.
  • Makes routine rounds to assure proper care and a safe, clean resident environment.
  • Assures accuracy and completeness of medical records in conjunction with DON and Care Coordinator.
  • Participates in staffing, scheduling, counseling, orientation and evaluation of nursing staff.
  • Assists with orientation both annual and new hire for all staff.
  • Responds to emergency calls as necessary.
  • Participates in family/resident counseling.
  • Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to resident care.
  • On call is required.
  • Instructs and documents training of staff in policy and procedures pertinent to their individual department.
  • Understands the responsibility to report suspected violations of The Cypress Code of Conduct to appropriate persons, or to The Cypress Compliance Hotline, or by completing a Written Report of Suspected Compliance Violation, or by contacting the Corporate Compliance Officer directly.
  • Takes appropriate precautions to avoid job related injuries and complies with injury reporting guidelines.
  • Actively participates in safety programs and complies with The Cypress Club policies and procedures.
  • Looks for ways to continuously improve safety for members, staff and visitors.
  • Embraces The Cypress Hospitality Promises daily.
  • Prepare staffing assignments and ensure staff functions in accordance with their job descriptions.
  • Ensure resident rights and requests are honored.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of the Health Center, making recommendations for repairs, painting, refurbishing, etc. as needed.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance, Safety, Infection Control, Utilization, and other committees as required.
  • Work with Pharmacy consultant regarding medication issues.
  • Meet with other department directors to coordinate interdepartmental functions and to anticipate and solve potential areas of concern.
  • Assist with all admission inquiries for appropriateness according to admission criteria.
  • Provide a safe working environment for staff members, promptly reporting any accidents and implement corrective and preventive action appropriately.
  • Conduct tours of the facility for prospective residents as needed.
  • Meet with new residents upon admission to the Health Center.
  • Assures timeliness of physician visits.
  • Accompanies physicians when making rounds.
  • Notifies physician and family of changes in resident’s condition.
  • Assures proper functioning of medical equipment an adequate medical supplies.
  • Assists DON in developing and implementing policies and procedures.
  • Assists in infection control, safety and pharmacy rounds and audits.
  • Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
