About The Position

Aspen Hospice is seeking a compassionate, experienced and motivated Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join our hospice leadership team. The ADON is an integral member of the hospice administrative team. Working under the direction of the Director of Nursing, this individual will help oversee clinical operations, support and develop nursing staff, maintain regulatory compliance and promote the delivery of exceptional patient-centered care. In addition to leadership and administrative responsibilities, the ADON will maintain a manageable patient caseload of up to six hospice patients.

Requirements

  • Current, active and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Texas.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in hospice administration and nursing management.
  • Working knowledge of federal and Texas regulations governing hospice care.
  • Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid requirements, HIPAA, OSHA and hospice documentation standards.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and support clinical team members.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to balance administrative responsibilities with a patient caseload of up to six patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as an Assistant Director of Nursing, clinical supervisor or in a comparable hospice leadership role.
  • Experience with hospice surveys, audits, quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary hospice care and care-plan development.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a patient caseload of up to six hospice patients.
  • Support the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualized patient care plans.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing to develop and implement clinical policies and procedures consistent with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Provide clinical guidance, problem-solving support and mentorship to nursing staff.
  • Conduct clinical audits and quality assessments to evaluate nursing practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Promote compassionate care focused on each patient’s comfort, dignity and quality of life.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring and onboarding nursing personnel.
  • Coordinate staff schedules to maintain appropriate patient coverage while meeting operational and budgetary expectations.
  • Participate in performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback, coaching and mentorship.
  • Support employee development, engagement and retention.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for field nurses and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Develop and facilitate orientation, training and continuing education programs for nursing staff.
  • Identify educational needs and provide resources to strengthen clinical skills and hospice knowledge.
  • Remain current on developments in hospice care and communicate relevant information to the nursing team.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, social work, chaplaincy, volunteer services and other departments to provide holistic patient and family support.
  • Assist with leading and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Review patient needs, contribute to care planning and help resolve clinical or operational concerns.
  • Promote effective communication among patients, families, caregivers, providers and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state and local hospice regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA and Medicare/Medicaid requirements.
  • Conduct documentation audits and monitor adherence to clinical and regulatory standards.
  • Support quality assurance, performance improvement and survey-readiness activities.
  • Help ensure patient records are accurate, complete and submitted within required timeframes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and leadership team to manage staffing, supplies, equipment and other clinical resources.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control costs without compromising patient care.
  • Assist with resolving day-to-day clinical and operational concerns.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.
