About The Position

The Assistant Director, Military Degree Plan (MDP) Team provides leadership, operational oversight, and strategic support for UMGC's Stateside Military Operations in support of tuition assistance and degree planning services for active-duty military members and Department of Defense civilians worldwide. This position assists with the management of daily operations, staff supervision, process improvement initiatives, and the delivery of accurate and timely Military Degree Plan products. The Assistant Director serves as a subject matter expert, promotes collaboration across university and military stakeholders, leverages data-driven decision making, and supports innovation to enhance service delivery and student success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in academic advising, military education, student services, or a related higher education field.
  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory, lead, or leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of military education benefits and degree planning processes.
  • Experience utilizing data and reporting tools to support strategic planning and operational decision making.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and degree audit systems.
  • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the strategic planning, implementation, and daily operations of the Military Degree Plan Team in alignment with UMGC's mission, goals, and MDP Strategic Plan.
  • Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, and performance management for MDP Coordinators; oversee employee development activities and facilitate the onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Serve as the primary back-up to the Director, Military Degree Plan Team, and assume leadership responsibilities during the Director's absence.
  • Function as the departmental subject matter expert on evaluated military degree plans, military education benefits, and degree planning processes.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative departments, military education centers, and external partners to improve communication, enhance service delivery, and streamline degree planning workflows.
  • Support university outreach initiatives through participation in committees, presentations, information sessions, conferences, and military education events.
  • Manage timely and accurate responses to Salesforce cases, monitor service levels, and ensure response templates remain current and effective.
  • Evaluate existing business processes, procedures, and policies and recommend improvements that support operational efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to backlog management, process improvement initiatives, documentation updates, evaluated military degree plan fixes, and external rejection resolution activities.
  • Support workforce development and sustainable team growth initiatives, including career path and career ladder programs.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement innovative technologies and solutions to improve operational effectiveness and customer service.
  • Assist with partnership initiatives, including military education agreements and AU-ABC degree mapping projects.
  • Prepare, review, and process electronic PeopleSoft Evaluated Military Degree Plans for active-duty Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard members.
  • Develop, analyze, and maintain reports, dashboards, and data queries for leadership; conduct operational analyses and provide summary findings for executive presentations and strategic planning efforts.
  • Support the Director with special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Travel periodically to Adelphi, Maryland, as business needs require.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
