About The Position

The Assistant Director of Grounds is responsible for overseeing the installation, operation, and maintenance of grounds, managing a union workforce, and ensuring the best practices in groundskeeping. This role requires a strong understanding of grounds management, equipment operation, and the ability to lead a team effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible experience managing a union workforce
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Thorough knowledge of grounds installation, operations, and maintenance best practices
  • Experience operating and maintaining industry-standard commercial grounds vehicles, equipment, and systems
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks in all weather conditions
  • Valid New York State driver’s license, maintained throughout employment
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape, construction, and irrigation drawings
  • Strong communication, management, organizational, and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using scheduling and work-order software
  • Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, arboriculture, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience in a multi-building higher education, campus, or arboretum setting
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS and the management of arboretum GIS databases
  • Arborist certification
  • New York State pesticide license
