About The Position

The Campus Rec Assistant Director is responsible to provide and oversee effective operations for respective Campus Recreation administration, programs, and/or facilities. The Assistant Director may provide direction to full-time, part-time, and student workers by supervising tasks, monitoring performance, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. They are also responsible for maintaining safety and reducing risk. The Assistant Director of Fitness is responsible for overseeing the personal training and group exercise programming and events within Campus Recreation facilities. These facilities include LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center and David’s Place. This position is responsible for leading student employees.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree from an accredited university
  • 2+ years’ experience working in the fitness industry
  • ACSM, NASM or ACE fitness certification
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid certifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, problem solving ability, and attention to detail
  • To obtain LU-approved driver certification, individuals must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license with a minimum of five (5) years of documented driving history, and maintain a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for directly overseeing a fitness team of part time and student employees. This includes hiring, training, developing, scheduling, and evaluating.
  • Responsible for day-to-day operational tasks to ensure seamless function of the group exercise and personal training programs including completing personal training audits, developing the group exercise calendar, evaluating group exercise classes and personal training sessions, and implementing surveys.
  • Assists in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies, ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Document and report incidents and injuries during fitness programming.
  • Document, track, and report program statistics and objectives progress in the areas of fitness program revenue, participation, and survey feedback.
  • Make purchases and recommendations for departmental assets or expenses.
  • Occasionally oversee and assist with events or operations during evening, nights or weekend hours.
  • Remain up to date on industry standards and performance benchmarks and ensure that fitness programming remains effective and current.
  • Assist with overseeing, managing, and ensuring proper maintenance of fitness facilities and assets for the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center and David’s Place and overall fitness programming.
  • Manage departmental fitness projects, including the creation and implementation of an annual programming plan, workshops, and competitions, as well as coordinating fitness facilities academic integration.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Director of Fitness Facilities to aid and assist in the operation of Campus Recreation Facilities.
