About The Position

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Dominican Republic at Tropicalia is seeking an Assistant Director of Engineering to support the Director of Engineering in leading all engineering, maintenance, and utilities operations for a pre-opening ultra-luxury resort and branded residences. This role is crucial for driving the successful commissioning, testing, and handover of all building systems, equipment, and infrastructure before opening. The Assistant Director will establish preventive maintenance programs, engineering standards, operating procedures, and asset management strategies, ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life-safety systems. Additionally, the role involves leading, coaching, and developing the Engineering team to build a high-performance and service-oriented culture, managing engineering projects, contractor relationships, and capital improvement initiatives while maintaining quality, timelines, and budgets. Collaboration with Resort Operations, Residences, Security, Sustainability, and Finance teams is key to delivering exceptional owner and guest experiences. A strong focus on environmental stewardship, energy optimization, water conservation, and sustainable operating practices is expected, along with ensuring full compliance with local regulations, health and safety requirements, brand standards, and luxury hospitality best practices.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in Engineering management within luxury hotels, resorts, or mixed-use hospitality developments.
  • Pre-opening experience in a luxury or ultra-luxury hospitality environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical expertise across building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, water treatment, power generation, and life-safety systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent financial acumen, including budgeting, CAPEX planning, cost control, and contractor management.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken) is required.
  • A degree or professional qualification in Engineering or a related technical discipline, with a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and service excellence.

  • Champion environmental stewardship, energy optimization, water conservation, and sustainable operating practices suitable for a remote, low-density destination.
  • Ensure full compliance with local regulations, health and safety requirements, brand standards, and luxury hospitality best practices.
