About The Position

The Assistant Director of Engineering supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing the maintenance, repair, safety, and operation of all resort facilities, equipment, systems, and grounds. This role helps ensure the resort is maintained to the highest standards of quality, safety, and guest satisfaction while leading the engineering team in daily operations, preventive maintenance programs, capital projects, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to work in heat, humidity, and occasionally adverse weather conditions common to South Florida
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing nametags.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading and supervising the Engineering team, including scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Oversee daily maintenance and repair of guest rooms, public areas, pools, restaurants, employee housing, and back-of-house facilities.
  • Ensure completion of preventive maintenance programs to maintain resort standards and equipment reliability.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and life safety systems.
  • Support the maintenance, upkeep, inspections, and project work associated with employee housing properties.
  • Support capital improvement projects and coordinate work performed by outside contractors and vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire safety, environmental, and company safety standards.
  • Assist in managing departmental budgets, inventory, purchasing, and cost-control initiatives while responding promptly to guest and operational maintenance issues to ensure a safe and exceptional experience.
