About The Position

The Assistant Director of Development at the W.P. Carey School of Business is primarily externally focused, responsible for engaging a portfolio of individuals, corporations, and foundations with potential affinity for ASU. Effectiveness will be measured by the ability to achieve financial goals and contact metrics for assigned programs and prospects. This role involves collaborating with the Director of Development to create fundraising and engagement efforts for specific W.P. Carey School of Business areas, managing a personal portfolio with a focus on securing significant gifts, and developing proposals and collateral materials. The position also includes assisting with strategic fundraising efforts, utilizing the ASU Foundation (ASUF) prospect management system, ensuring donor stewardship, supporting campaign planning, and building strong relationships with academic leadership and faculty.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer database systems.
  • Knowledge of CRM, specifically Salesforce.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Two (2) to (3) years of successful development experience or transferrable experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities in support of development objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Create fundraising and engagement efforts for at least two W. P. Carey School of Business areas, including the Department of Economics, Morrison School of Agribusiness, and other assigned academic units.
  • Actively engage donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and students by managing a personal portfolio with a focus on securing gifts at or above the $50,000 level, targeting $500,000-$1 million annually.
  • Collaborate with faculty, institute/center directors, and other fundraisers to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of prospects.
  • Develop and submit written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials for securing philanthropic investments.
  • Assist in the development and execution of strategic fundraising and engagement efforts by designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining development activities to drive donor retention, reactivation, acquisition, and pipeline growth.
  • Use the ASU Foundation (ASUF) prospect management and tracking system (i.e., Salesforce) to record and coordinate contacts and proposals.
  • Ensure proper stewardship and recognition of donors in the portfolio.
  • Assist the development team with campaign planning and implementation.
  • Participate as a member of the ASUF development team and serve as a resource to development colleagues regarding fundraising opportunities.
  • Establish strong working relationships with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty members of assigned units.
