About The Position

The Assistant Director of Development reports directly to the Senior Director of Development and plays a key role in advancing the organization’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing and executing the organization’s annual gala, managing annual giving campaigns for both the Elementary School and the Aaron Milken Center, and supporting additional fundraising initiatives and development activities as needed. The Assistant Director of Development works closely with organizational leadership, clergy, volunteers, donors, and community stakeholders to strengthen philanthropic support and foster meaningful donor relationships.

Requirements

  • Experience managing fundraising events and annual campaigns
  • Confidence in donor cultivation and gift solicitation
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate the organization’s mission and case for support effectively
  • Strategic thinker with strong follow-through and problem-solving abilities
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Two years of experience in fundraising, sales, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in customer service.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Problem solving abilities, trouble-shooting skills, and the ability to adapt to a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to quickly learn and gain proficiency in Customer Relationship Management systems.
  • Strong background in Excel.
  • Strong proofreading skills.
  • Acute attention to detail and very organized.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Stephen Wise Temple and Wise Schools.
  • Diligent in the practice of confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relationships with congregants, staff, and lay leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the annual gala fundraising event
  • Manage timelines, sponsorships, donor outreach, and event communications
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies for gala giving opportunities, including Fund-a-Need initiatives and sponsorship campaigns
  • Coordinate with leadership, committees, volunteers, and event partners to ensure successful event execution
  • Oversee donor stewardship and follow-up related to gala fundraising efforts
  • Manage and support annual giving campaigns for the Elementary School and Aaron Milken Center
  • Partnering with the Head of School and school development committee to facilitate solicitations of school parents
  • Develop donor cultivation and solicitation strategies to increase participation and annual support
  • Coordinate campaign communications, outreach efforts, donor tracking, and stewardship activities
  • Identify opportunities for donor upgrades and increased engagement
  • Maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, families, and community members
  • Assist with additional fundraising initiatives, campaigns, grants, and donor engagement activities as assigned
  • Support major gift cultivation and stewardship efforts
  • Proof Development communications and weekly emails, including honor rolls.
  • Maintain accurate donor records and assist with development database management
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Development, staff, and leadership on strategic fundraising priorities and organizational initiatives
