About The Position

The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Relations to join their Development team. This role will focus on cultivating a strong donor pipeline by directly engaging with alumni. The position will manage day-to-day tasks in development and alumni relations, assist in coordinating frontline fundraising efforts, and build relationships with alumni who have the potential to grow from leadership level donors (under $100,000) to major donors (over $100,000). Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years progressively responsible experience in fundraising or management positions.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundraising for higher education.
  • Ability to develop, analyze, and evaluate detailed fundraising programs.
  • A record of successful fundraising with results.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Organize donor meetings, events, and campaigns to secure major gifts and endowments ($25K–$100K+).
  • Manage annual giving programs and coordinate participation in UT initiatives (e.g., 40 Hours for the Forty Acres).
  • Lead donor communications and quarterly newsletters, ensuring effective outreach.
  • Oversee compliance for 70+ endowments, including donor stewardship and fund utilization.
  • Conduct frontline fundraising, donor research, and proposals for multi-million-dollar gifts.
  • Support university capital campaign strategies and serve as a liaison to the LBJ Foundation for gift agreements and events.
  • Manage a comprehensive alumni affairs program, acting as the primary liaison between alumni, faculty, and staff.
  • Support local alumni chapters and alumni board leadership, including logistics for board meetings.
  • Oversee alumni communications (social media, email, newsletters) and coordinate alumni events like receptions, networking, and career panels in key cities.
  • Manage alumni website content, including class notes, event calendars, and directories.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team on event promotion and branding.
  • Foster alumni engagement and maintain relations with university departments and external agencies.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
