About The Position

The Assistant Director of Compliance for Tennessee Athletics is responsible for providing interpretations of NCAA and SEC legislation to various stakeholders including coaches, administrators, student-athletes, and boosters. This role also involves serving as a liaison between the Compliance Office and coaching staffs, sport administrators, and other University entities. The position requires a strong understanding of NCAA and SEC rules, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year experience (can include graduate assistantship or internship) working with student-athletes, coaches, and officials regarding compliance issues.
  • Significant working knowledge of the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and SEC.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively balance multiple situations.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects according to severity and importance.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
  • Qualities of emotional maturity, genuineness, self-confidence, common sense, and good judgment.
  • Ability to make good, consistent, and fair decisions (based on facts and data).
  • Working knowledge of LSDBi and the NCAA Eligibility Center.
  • Working knowledge of Teamworks and Banner.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Sport Administration, MBA (related field may be substituted), or Juris Doctorate.
  • A minimum of 1-3 years in NCAA administration or compliance.
  • Experience working efficiently with student-athletes, coaches, and administrators regarding compliance issues.
  • A strong understanding of the rules and regulations associated with the NCAA and SEC programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Bylaw practitioner for assigned NCAA bylaws.
  • Monitor and document legislative requirements and procedural matters related to assigned Bylaws, including responding to interpretive inquiries and preparing/submitting NCAA and SEC waiver requests.
  • Document NCAA Level III violations related to assigned bylaws, investigate if needed, and submit to the NCAA for review.
  • Support primary bylaw practitioners in monitoring and documenting legislative requirements and procedural matters.
  • Serve as Sport Facilitator for select sports and Administrative Facilitator for select Athletics Department constituents.
  • Respond to interpretive inquiries of NCAA and SEC legislation and University policies related to Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments.
  • Investigate and file NCAA Level III violations related to Administrative Facilitator assignments.
  • Gather information and file student-athlete reinstatement requests related to Sport Facilitator assignments via the NCAA online portal.
  • Conduct and document rules education meetings with coaches, staff members, and student-athletes for Sport and Administrative Facilitator assignments.
  • Conduct and document Beginning and End of the Year team meetings related to Sport Facilitator assignments.
  • Assist with the operation of player-guest and prospective student-athlete ticket lists.
  • Assist with monthly all-staff compliance educational meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
