About The Position

Primary Purpose: Assist with directing and managing the child nutrition operation of the district. Plan and implement programs that meet regulatory and nutritional requirements for students, promote the development of sound nutritional practices, and maintain a safe and sanitary environment.

Requirements

At least 60 college hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, home economics, or food service management
Experience in administrative cafeteria operations, menu planning, food specifications, food purchasing, preparation and serving of foods in a food service situation
At least 3 years experience in food service management
A minimum of 3 years of successful administrative experience

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Child Nutrition to manage the district’s food service programs
Assist the Director of Child Nutrition to develop menus that meet established nutritional requirements for students
Works cooperatively with campus principals to create lunch schedules and resolve personnel issues
Establishes and assists the process of providing free and reduced lunch applications following United States Department of Agriculture and Texas Education Agency guidelines for meal eligibility and reimbursement of federal funds
Aides in the development and maintain written department procedures for all food service operations
Works with Directors of Head Start and Title I to correlate special program needs with the federal standards for the child nutrition program
Comply with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the food service area
Aides in compiling, maintaining, and filing all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
Prepares the necessary data for processing the food service payroll
Assist in administering the food service budget and ensures that the programs are cost effective and the funds are managed prudently
Assist with compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs
Assists with the development of a cost-effective and efficient system of procurement of all food meeting federal procurement and Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards
Assist with initiating and approving purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies
Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and replace equipment as necessary
Plan and direct inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies
Develop training options and improvement plans to ensure exemplary operation in the food service area
Assist with evaluating job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness
Recruit, train, and supervise personnel and make sound recommendations about personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal
Ensures that measures are in place and operating to protect food, supplies, and equipment in school cafeterias, lunchrooms, and warehouse
Maintains safety standards that conform with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program of preventive safety
Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities
Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators
Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance; evaluates the job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness
Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned
Annually establishes and meets performance goals
Oversees the PEIMS process as it relates to the department
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
Adhere to the district’s safety policies and procedures
Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
Must be able to perform the essential functions of interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned
