About The Position

Extendicare is seeking experienced healthcare leaders for Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) opportunities in their Long-Term Care homes across Ontario, Alberta, and Manitoba. The ADOC reports to the Director of Care and is responsible for supporting and leading a high-performing team to deliver safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to residents. This role involves overseeing assigned clinical areas, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations, and collaborating with the care team to optimize resident-centered care. The ADOC will also engage with residents and families to improve satisfaction and uphold the organization's mission. Qualified candidates may be considered for other ADOC opportunities and Executive Director openings within Extendicare's network.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as Registered staff in the long-term care sector.
  • Current and unrestricted registration/licensing and practice as a Registered Nurse with the applicable Provincial licensing body.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in the use of EHR systems, specifically Point Click Care and Point of Care.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proven history of leading quality improvement initiatives and achieving positive resident outcomes.
  • Demonstrated team building and time management skills.
  • Strong Clinical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference of three (3) years, minimum of one (1) of experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
  • Bachelor of Nursing preferred or Post-secondary Diploma in Nursing.
  • Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and managing under a collective agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned program areas as per Extendicare’s Model of Care, ensuring effective implementation and performance in compliance with legislative and professional standards.
  • Identify risk and mitigation strategies and escalate and manage as appropriate in collaboration with organizational teams and departments.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all regulations, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, and labor and employment standards, including timely investigations and consistent action planning.
  • Actively participate and collaborate with the Director of Care, interdisciplinary team, and consult with care staff, residents, and families to deliver and optimize resident care.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and oversight of quality improvement initiatives within the home to achieve successful outcomes and meet established goals.
  • Engage with vendors on quality initiatives and training requirements and collaborate with community health partners for the betterment of resident care.
  • Foster professional growth and engagement of team members through mentorship, training, and development initiatives to enhance team performance in partnership with DOC to build a strong organizational culture. This includes identifying skill gaps, providing coaching and feedback, and encouraging continuous learning.

  • Through employing the customer service mindset, accept and respond to feedback (complaints, recognition, or suggestions) from residents, families, vendors, and team members with acknowledgment and empathy.
