About The Position

This position provides advising support for designated student programming organizations and committees. The Assistant Director is responsible for the management and coordination of the Signature Events program, including developing and maintaining UF Traditions, event creation and implementation, and on-site event management. They will advise the Class Councils in all aspects of planning and executing class-wide events and campus traditions, and advise Student Government Productions in the planning and production of large-scale concerts. The role also supports GatorNights, ACCENT Speaker’s Bureau, and other departmental campus events. Additionally, the Assistant Director advises other designated student organizations and committees in developing and implementing social, educational, and cultural programs, and serves as a staff advisor to major campus-wide events like Homecoming Events, Gator Growl, and Great Gator Welcome. The position assists with a performer contract process exceeding $1,000,000 annually and advises student leaders on all aspects of event programming, including idea development, budgeting, planning, advertising, promotion, implementation, and evaluation. They interpret university policies for students and organizations regarding program management, contracts, safety, liability, risk management, and fiscal management. The Assistant Director supports the Office of Campus Engagement in providing advising, training, and oversight for campus programs, events, and traditions, and assists in developing and supporting large-scale campus events and traditions through the Signature Events program. They serve as a resource for event planning and management, assist with budget planning, monitoring, and reporting, and develop collaborative relationships with other UF departments. Administrative functions of the Office of Campus Engagement are also supported, including Campus Events and Traditions and Student Government Advising & Operations. Research and assessments for programs and services are developed, conducted, and analyzed, including programming needs assessment, effectiveness of programs, outcomes assessment, and student satisfaction. A comprehensive marketing and promotions strategy for the office's services and programs is contributed to. The Assistant Director advises and assists the Associate Director in strategic planning and meeting unit objectives. They maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper procedures and controls. Staff development within the department is assisted with, and supervision, training, and support are provided for the Program Coordinator – GatorNights and one graduate assistant. The role contributes to the Division and University through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or a bachelor’s degree in appropriate areas of specialization and four years of experience.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • A Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or comparable field or a Bachelor’s in an appropriate field and 4+ (four) years relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide advising support for designated student programming organizations and committees.
  • Manage and coordinate the Signature Events program, including developing and maintaining UF Traditions, event creation and implementation, and on-site event management.
  • Advise the Class Councils in all aspects of planning and executing class-wide events and campus traditions.
  • Advise Student Government Productions in the planning and production of large-scale concerts.
  • Support GatorNights, ACCENT Speaker’s Bureau, and other departmental campus events as needed.

  • Develop, conduct, and analyze research and assessments for various programs and services.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing and promotions strategy.
  • Advise and assist the Associate Director of Campus Events and Traditions in strategic planning and in meeting the service and educational objectives of the unit.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and ensure proper procedures, controls, and financial guidelines.
  • Assist with coordination of staff development within the department.
  • Provide supervision, training, and support for the Program Coordinator – GatorNights and one graduate assistant.
  • Contribute to the Division and University through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.
