About The Position

The Assistant Director of Annual Giving, within the MIT Sloan Office of External Relations, is responsible for managing and soliciting a portfolio of approximately 1,000 annual fund donors and prospects with the capacity to contribute between $2,500 and $100,000 to the MIT Sloan Annual Fund. This role involves completing 100-120 prospect meetings annually through in-person and virtual engagement, and conducting strategic outreach via video, phone, text, and email to secure leadership-level commitments during key fundraising periods and throughout the year, including MIT's giving day. The position requires the preparation of timely and comprehensive contact reports, proposals, and other donor-related materials, along with consistent follow-up. The Assistant Director will also steward donors, express appreciation, and collaborate with colleagues on retention and engagement strategies. Working closely with their manager, the candidate will establish annual goals for solicitation activity and fundraising outcomes, and leverage special giving opportunities and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in areas such as personal solicitation, sales, or a related field
  • Collaborative, self-motivated, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Exceptional judgment, diplomacy, discretion, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage comfortably and appropriately with high-profile individuals and potential major benefactors
  • Ability to quickly learn and effectively communicate MIT Sloan's mission, culture, academic programs, strategic priorities, and philanthropic opportunities
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Willingness to travel domestically, as approved by MIT Sloan
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required
