About The Position

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement - Queens, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement - Queens is responsible for developing and implementing strategic engagement initiatives that foster meaningful connections with Queens University's alumni population. This position provides leadership for young alumni programming, oversees segmented and personalized communications strategies, and supports signature alumni events and engagement opportunities across the university. The Assistant Director will lead targeted outreach efforts, including management of the monthly alumni newsletter and alumni social media platforms, and will cultivate relationships with a portfolio of young alumni to encourage lifelong engagement and volunteer involvement in support of the university's mission and strategic priorities.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Three to five years professional/internship experience in sales, marketing, communications, events, customer service and/or volunteer management preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to quickly learn and assimilate new systems and information.
  • Exceptional follow-up and follow-through skills as well as ability to plan, organize and control large and small projects through to completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), including exemplary poise, tact and diplomacy when working with a wide range of constituents and diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative work style, as well as ability to work independently.
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion with sensitive, difficult, or confidential material and situations.
  • Available and willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and/or weekends to meet demands of the position.
  • Actively enhancing professional development by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; attending appropriate conferences; building relationships with colleagues at Queens and other institutions; etc.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess comprehensive engagement strategies and programs designed to connect and engage young alumni.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with alumni, identifying opportunities for volunteerism, leadership involvement, and continued engagement with the university. Manage a portfolio of alumni, which includes the identification, solicitation and stewardship of these select donors.
  • Support and execute key university and alumni events, including Senior Class Giving, Homecoming, Reunion activities, QUnited, and Commencement. Serve as a member of the Homecoming Committee, providing strategic insights related to alumni engagement and enhancing the overall guest experience.
  • Manage assigned reunion classes by partnering with volunteer class leaders to plan reunion events and implement strategic outreach initiatives that increase participation and attendance.
  • Partner with senior class representatives and the Commencement Planning Committee to plan and execute the annual 100 Days to Commencement program, facilitating a successful transition from student to alumni status.
  • Produce and manage the monthly alumni newsletter in collaboration with campus partners, highlighting university initiatives, alumni accomplishments, and upcoming engagement opportunities. Oversee all alumni engagement social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Threads and X), developing compelling content, maintaining an active online presence, and responding to inquiries and messages in a timely manner.
