About The Position

Emory University seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative Assistant Director of Admissions to recruit, counsel, and engage prospective students while helping build each incoming class. This role combines student outreach, public presentations, application review, and strategic project leadership in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will represent Emory both on campus and nationally, serve on the admission committee, and help advance the university's commitment to academic excellence and student success. Strong communication skills, flexibility, and a passion for working with students are essential. This position works on the Campus Visit Experience Team and will help co-manage student ambassadors. Travel, evening and weekend programs, and a blend of in-person and virtual engagement are regular components of this role.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and two years of university or college admission experience.
• A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
• Effective public speaking skills.

• Travels approximately 3 weeks in the fall, and 2 weeks in the spring promoting Emory at college fairs, high school visits, and university receptions across the nation.
• Public engagement requires excellent communication skills for both in-person and virtual presentations, and the ability to create new content.
• Serves on a 30-member Admission Committee, reviews approximately 1,000 applicants providing comments and admission ratings; works collaboratively across various phases of the selection calendar, both in-person and virtually, as the team builds the first-year class.
• Conduct information sessions for visitors on a regular basis; serve as resource to the public on behalf of Emory, and broadly in support of students’ college search.
• Successful candidate must be comfortable in hybrid model of both virtual and in-person programming and office work.
• Lead special project area to be assigned by supervisor and office leadership.
• Previous examples include tour guides, student volunteers, high school counselor programs, alumni volunteers, transfer admission, faculty relations.
• The office values creativity and flexibility as new projects are needed for changing times.
• Expected to be knowledgeable of other university divisions, specifically the 3 other undergraduate colleges: Nursing, Oxford, and Business.
• Field inquiries and respond to correspondence from prospective students, applicants, counselors, parents, faculty, alumni, and other university constituencies.
• Assist with fall/spring on-campus visitation programs, helping to coordinate events for in-person and virtual visitors.
• During the busy office cycles of the academic year, you may be asked to work on some weekends and evenings.
• Time out of the office and away from home is common at points during the academic calendar.

Responsibilities

• Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating recruitment strategies and activities for one or more academic programs.
• Attends recruitment functions, reviews applications, maintains contact with prospective students, candidates, and recruiting contacts.
• Coordinates admission programs for one or more student groups such as prospective students, accepted students, international or transfer students.
• Recruits students by visiting high schools and college recruitment fairs.
• Plans itineraries for assigned geographical areas and ensures adequate coverage of priority areas based on historical data.
• Reviews applications for admission, provides comments, and assigns an admission rating to each application.
• Recommends which applicants to accept, refer, reject, or put on the waiting list.
• Conducts information sessions for visiting students and parents and may conduct campus tours.
• Responds to questions pertaining to admission, housing, financial aid, academic departments, and the University in general.
• Refers students to other sources for additional information.
• Assists in planning and coordinating special events and alumni volunteer activities to enhance student recruitment.
• Plans, coordinates and implements training programs for new Admission Advisors.
• Performs related responsibilities as required.
