About The Position

Xavier University’s Office of Academic Advising and Learning Support (OALS) is seeking an Assistant Director of Academic Advising with a specific focus on first-year and at-risk student populations. This position serves as a professional academic advisor and collaborates with faculty to help students meet their academic and co-curricular goals. The academic advisor assists students in understanding major and core requirements, planning satisfactory progress, course selection, and registration. In addition, this role coordinates and oversees some of the following: communication and outreach, first-year student on-boarding, transfer student and special population academic advising, EAB Navigate, assessment, and professional and faculty academic advisor training. OALS equips students to confidently navigate their educational journey through personalized academic advising and comprehensive learning support. We partner with each student to identify and reflect on their unique goals and develop a clear path to graduation. We consult with faculty advisors as they work to support advisees and academically struggling students. Together, we strive to ensure that every student feels supported, valued, and informed, takes responsibility for their academic progress, and realizes their educational goals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required in Higher Education, College Counseling, or related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
  • Intermediate communication skills

  • Project/process management skills
  • Computer/technical skills
  • Office administrative support skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized, developmental, appreciative academic advising to 200-250 current and prospective undergraduate students with specific emphasis on first-year and at-risk students.
  • Coordinates and oversees some of the following: communication and outreach, first-year student on-boarding, transfer student and special population academic services, EAB Navigate, assessment, and professional and faculty academic advisor training.
  • Collaborates with Faculty Advisors, Academic Departments, Career Development, Care and Support, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Life, Thrive, and other offices across Xavier University.
