About The Position

Oversees all areas of the hospital in the absence of leadership, maintaining a professional environment that supports the delivery of high-quality patient and family-centered care. This role provides leadership to supervisors and team members, guiding them toward achieving facility and hospital objectives. The position promotes appreciative inquiry, evidence-based practice, and ethical, compassionate care. It involves assessing hospital activity, patient activity, and personnel resources to ensure appropriate staffing and adherence to the established care delivery model. The Assistant Director also ensures continual compliance with various regulatory bodies including The Joint Commission (JC), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), New York State Department of Health (DOH), Public Health Law, HIPPA, and System, hospital, and department standards. They demonstrate a broad understanding of the regulatory environment and identify opportunities for operational change using evidence-based strategies. This role serves as a role model for professional practice and monitors personnel, supply, and equipment considerations in the absence of leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in nursing, required.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State, required.
  • 6-10 years of nursing experience, required.
  • 5-7 years of leadership/management experience, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters degree in nursing, preferred.
  • Specialized certifications, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages operations and patient care activities in all areas of facility in the absence of leadership.
  • Provides leadership to supervisors and team members by communicating and guiding toward achieving facility objectives.
  • Communicates, builds consensus, and guides departments toward achieving hospital objectives.
  • Promotes and maintains high quality patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
  • Maintains a professional work environment that fosters team member respect, engagement, accountability and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Promotes appreciative inquiry and evidence-based, ethical and compassionate practice.
  • Provides direction and guidance to patient care unit team members and supervisors in clinical and operational concerns in the absence of leadership.
  • May provide input into performance reviews, hiring, promotions and corrective actions.
  • Serves as a role model for standards of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership).
  • Monitors personnel, supply and equipment considerations in the absence of leadership.
  • Assesses hospital activity, patient activity and personnel resources in order to ensure equitable and appropriate staffing.
  • Ensures adherence to the established care delivery model, using knowledge of scope and standards of practice.
  • Facilitates continual compliance with the JC, CMS, New York State, DOH, Public Health Law, HIPPA regulations and System, hospital and department standards.
  • Demonstrates broad understanding of the regulatory environment in order to ensure hospital compliance with requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of scope and standards of practice, healthcare legislation, and population health.
  • Identifies opportunities to initiate operational change within facility using evidence-based strategies and solutions.
  • Performs related duties as required.
