About The Position

The Student Union, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit auxiliary that maintains three major facilities at San José State University in downtown San José, California. These facilities include the Diaz Compean Student Union Building, the Provident Credit Union Event Center, and the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. The Student Union, Inc. functions as part of the Student Affairs Division on campus, and is governed by a Board of Directors made up of a student majority, faculty, and administrators. Mission The Student Union, Inc. of San Jose State University supports the development, growth, and well-being of students and the campus community by providing diverse programs, desired services, and quality facilities to enhance the collegiate experience. Job Summary This position is responsible for coordinating and supporting a partnership with SJSU Marketing & Communications and Associated Students. It is also responsible for the overall Student Union, Inc. brand, Annual Reporting, and official document posting and creation as appropriate for the 501c3 status. This position will have oversight of multiple and competing demands for small- and large-scale marketing projects to serve a diverse client portfolio of programs and initiatives in support of Student Union, and other Student Affairs partnerships. Oversight of websites, social media and third-party platform management; Printed and electronic materials, corporation annual report and budget summary. This role will work with marketing on CSU and university compliances including accessibility, VPAT, TRIA and Commerce execution. This position creates, implements and tracks targeted marketing plans and campaigns, which rely heavily on digital marketing and communications tactics. Under the general direction of the Director for Programming, Marketing and Assessment, the Assistant Director for Marketing will make decisions about allocating resources within a marketing budget, selecting the appropriate media mix and collaborating on content creation and design assets. This position collaborates with fellow members of the marketing team, in addition to the web/IT and enrollment services teams, and works closely with Student Union, Student Affairs and the SJSU Campus community. The Assistant Director for Marketing will manage multiple and competing demands for small- and large-scale marketing projects to serve a diverse client portfolio of programs and initiatives. This position will lead project work, bringing together appropriate partners and stakeholders as needed and ensuring the successful completion of all projects. The role is also responsible for optimizing workflows, creating efficiencies, effective client communication strategies and leading innovation and contemporary marketing methods in outreach to students.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic arts, public relations, public administration or closely related field or similar field and a minimum of 3 years of marketing-related experience.
  • At least 3-5 years experience in marketing, web design, and technical writing equivalent work experience.
  • Strong computer skills and substantial knowledge of MS Office and Google products are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-paced and challenging business environment.
  • Must be able to write clear and concise copy and edit written material quickly and accurately.
  • Knowledge of MLA style and the AP Stylebook writing standards.
  • Ability to supervise staff and delegate work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of current and online marketing strategies, social media platforms, web analytics and graphic design skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency with Content Management Systems.
  • Work and communicate effectively with a widely diverse university community.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with campus partners and a diverse community clientele.
  • Proven knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may require occasional nights and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Two years or more supervisory experience in a higher education marketing environment is preferred.
