About The Position

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a full-time, temporary Assistant Director for the Kessler Scholars Program, located within the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. The Kessler Scholars Program supports talented, limited-income, first-generation students from rural North Carolina by enhancing their college experience. As part of a national network of 16 institutions, the program offers a comprehensive four-year model focused on academic success, a sense of belonging, leadership development, and long-term achievement. The program provides holistic advising, including personalized academic, financial, and career guidance. It fosters community through a cohort model that connects approximately 80 students (20 from each academic year) with peers, mentors, and alumni. This position operates as a peer-partner with another assistant director to manage overall operations of the program under the guidance and support of a program supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in higher education administration
  • Experience working with limited-income and first-generation students
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Experience with Slate or similar CRM systems
  • Experience with social media management
  • Experience in career counseling or coaching

Responsibilities

  • Lead all major administrative processes for the program (ordering, transactions, room and venue reservations, administrative steps for hiring interns and processing stipends for mentors, administration for program-related student trips and travel)
  • Lead communications (student newsletters, Slate updates and events, Instagram, emails)
  • Lead career immersion support and consultations for students
  • Work throughout the year to partner with students and community partners to identify high impact opportunities
  • Review student applications for special funding
  • Lead campus and community partnerships for Kessler special opportunities and professional development
  • Attend monthly conversations with the Kessler Scholars Collaborative
  • Collaborate on Scholar recruitment
  • Collaborate on all event planning and leadership for events
  • Collaborate on reporting
  • Collaborate on an administrative, annual calendar of operations
