About The Position

The Assistant Director for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (PSEP) is responsible for providing day-to-day supervision, oversight, and leadership for public safety and emergency preparedness for the campus and campus security staff. The Assistant Director for PSEP will report directly to the Director for Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness while working collaboratively with campus leadership and other key campus and community stakeholders. Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or industry related certification along with three (3) to four (4) year’s related experience.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Must be adept at resolving individual and group conflicts and must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must possess the skills necessary to operate and maintain CCTV and Access Control systems.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, planning, evaluation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel within the state for work and occasional out-of-state travel for appropriate professional development.
  • Must demonstrate ability to promote an environment that reflects the broad backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, retention, and development of PSEP staff.
  • Provides direct supervision to PSEP staff.
  • Conduct annual evaluations and approve timesheets for PSEP Staff.
  • Collaborates with Director for PSEP and Territory Executive Director to establish a threat and risk based front-line staffing plan.
  • Works with Director for PSEP to implement comprehensive emergency management and business continuity plans and practices on campus.
  • Works with the Director for PSEP to plan, draft, and execute progressive Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program compliant drills and exercises.
  • Responds to and assists with all on-campus emergencies by coordinating with first responders and campus leadership.
  • Acts upon guidance, in line with PSEP standards, for physical security including but not limited to surveillance camera systems and electronic access control.
  • Investigate, and write detailed reports for incidents.
  • Assists in building and maintaining relationships with external partners (law enforcement, fire department, local health department, etc.).
  • Assist in the training of security staff and College employees.
  • Assists in maintaining campus emergency notification systems.
  • Works with the Director for PSEP and campus leadership to develop, implement, and maintain programs that ensure compliance with Federal and state safety regulations, including but not limited to fire code, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations and the Environmental Protection Agency regulations.
  • Serves as the primary PSEP representative when the Director for PSEP is unavailable.
  • Serve as a model for strong leadership, develops and supports the Campus culture of collaboration and commitment to delivering high quality services and outcomes, by being student- and employee-centered.
