About The Position

The Assistant Director of Career Development for Employer Relations reports to the Associate Director for Employer Relations and Marketing and is responsible for developing and supporting employer relationships and engagements on campus. The Assistant Director identifies companies, agencies, business, governmental entities, etc that can provide practicum, internship, and employment opportunities for App State students and secures their involvement in on campus recruitment events. The Assistant Director supports the planning and execution of all Career Development Center anchor events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and three years of professional experience, preferably in higher education or private sector recruiting; or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Experience in program and event planning with demonstrated superior attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proven effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and build rapport with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employer colleagues
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize competing tasks
  • Familiarity with recruitment and hiring practices and knowledge of industry trends

Nice To Haves

  • Masters Degree in a related field
  • Strong computer skills including managing databases, platforms, and software packages
  • Experience working with career services management platforms such as Handshake, customer relationship management ( CRM ) platforms, or related technical software

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the Career Development Center Employer Relations Team, advancing its mission by developing and executing employer outreach, recruitment, and relationship management strategies that produce high-quality full-time and internship opportunities for App State students.
  • Plans and executes all CDC anchor events under the supervision of the Associate Director, including career fairs, conferences, and other engagements with a focus on high-quality engagement between employers and students for the purpose of networking, exercising career readiness competencies, and connecting to jobs and internships.
  • Supports employer engagement with the CDC by identifying new employer contacts, recruiting employers as potential internship and employment sites, securing employer involvement in programming and events, and supporting employers in the partnership programs.
  • Connects employers with Boone and Hickory campus stakeholders (e.g. academic colleges and departments, institutional administrative units, alumni, community members and others) to engage students in the recruiting and hiring process through targeted programming.
  • Compiles, assesses, and reports data on employer relations and development activities and events.
  • Uses data collected to market outcomes and services as a benefit of engaging with the Career Development Center.
  • Coordinates site visits including campus, local, and regional employers to maintain/develop new relations, promote Career Development Center programs and services with emphasis on internships, job development, on-campus recruiting, and utilizing Handshake.
  • Serves as a consultant to employers to expand their talent pipelines and provide employers with engagement opportunities that foster mentoring and networking with students.
  • Serves as an active collaborator and contributing member of the Marketing Team by supporting strategic communication efforts, content development, and promotional initiatives that enhance student participation and employer engagement opportunities.
  • Trains and supervises Employer Relations student assistants.
