About The Position

Montefiore Einstein is seeking an experienced and strategic Assistant Director, Food Services Purchasing to support the procurement operations of the Food & Nutrition Services Department. The successful candidate will oversee purchasing activities, vendor relationships, inventory management, and cost-control initiatives to ensure the continuous availability of food, supplies, and equipment necessary to support patient care and retail food service operations. This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and a commitment to operational excellence within a complex healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Hospitality Management, Food Service Management, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or food service management experience.
  • Strong understanding of procurement practices, inventory management, and vendor contract administration.
  • Experience with purchasing systems, inventory management software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and operational excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Previous healthcare, hospital, hospitality, or institutional food service experience strongly preferred.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in directing and managing all food service purchasing functions for the department.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to ensure quality, service, and competitive pricing.
  • Monitor inventory levels and implement effective inventory control practices to minimize waste and shortages.
  • Analyze purchasing trends, utilization data, and market conditions to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, contractual agreements, regulatory requirements, and food safety standards.
  • Collaborate with Food & Nutrition leadership, Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to support departmental objectives.
  • Oversee product sourcing, substitutions, and standardization initiatives.
  • Participate in budget preparation and expenditure management.
  • Prepare and present reports related to purchasing, inventory, and operational performance.
  • Support staff development, workflow improvement, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Assist with emergency procurement needs and operational contingency planning.
