About The Position

Chartwells K12's goal is to make sure students leave the cafeteria happier and healthier than they came in, by serving food kids love to eat and creating custom dining programs. With more than 16,000 associates in 4,500 schools, ranging from large public institutions to small charter and private schools, Chartwells K12 is built on decades of food, education and operational experience driven by top culinary, nutrition, wellness, and sustainability talent. This Assistant Director will report to the Director of Dining Services and help oversee a team of up to 35 frontline associates across a long-tenured account. The district serves approximately 3,000 students across 9 school buildings. As the Assistant Director of Dining Services, you will support the day-to-day management of food service operations within a mid- to large-volume K-12 environment. This role partners closely with the Director to lead, develop, and engage a team of associates while ensuring high standards of service, safety, and operational excellence. Key responsibilities include supporting talent development, maintaining strong client and school relationships, driving operational efficiency, and contributing to financial performance and budget goals within the assigned area. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, team-oriented, and committed to delivering a high-quality dining experience for students and staff.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years of food service management experience.
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Financial experience and business acumen skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree is preferred.
