About The Position

The YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is seeking an Assistant Director to assist the Site Director in providing a high-quality and safe childcare program. This role involves direct supervision, teaching, and ensuring the safety of enrolled children, including managing a group of up to 14 children. The Assistant Director will plan monthly curriculum and activities for school-age children, contributing to an enriching and nurturing environment. A key responsibility is ensuring child safety at all times. This position collaborates with the Site Director and Program Director to achieve desired results and maintain program quality standards. The Assistant Director will also direct the work of Teachers and Teacher’s Aides and provide overall site assistance in the absence of the Site Director.

Requirements

  • Eighteen years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Twelve units of Early Childhood Education, or three units Early Childhood Education plus nine related or equivalent units (For Preschool Only: 12 core semester units early childhood education and Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential)
  • 6 months experience working with children in a group setting (For Preschool Only: 6 months experience in a licensed child care center)

  • Current First Aid certification
  • Adult, Infant and Child CPR Certifications
  • Ability to lift 30-35lbs

Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet children and parents, creating a welcoming and nurturing environment.
  • Prepare and implement a well-rounded, child-centered calendar and curriculum that achieves YMCA goals.
  • Help children manage behavior using a positive approach, including redirection and constructive discipline.
  • Maintain an exceptionally clean and safe environment in the child care facility.
  • Provide continuous program feedback to parents regarding their child/children’s participation and behavior, including conferences when necessary.
  • Model positive interactions with children for staff, providing coaching and feedback to ensure program standards are met.
  • Assist the Site Director in providing staff supervision and training, recommending appropriate staff counseling and education.
  • Assist the Site Director with administrative tasks including staff scheduling, timesheet monitoring, and report auditing.
  • Step in to address issues concerning the management of the site in the absence of the Site Director.
  • Interact, initiate, and encourage children in daily activities.
  • Initiate, establish, and maintain strong positive communications with parents and school personnel.
  • Participate in Family Events as directed by the Site Director.
  • Respond to questions/concerns from members, parents, and school personnel, problem-solving and following through to completion.
  • Assist the Site Director with the recruitment of parents for the Parent Advisory Council.
  • Understand and promote all YMCA programs, informing members of programs that meet their needs.
  • Keep accurate attendance records, including taking roll, verifying absences, and maintaining daily logs and PCG reports.
  • Maintain close supervision of children at all times; never leave a child unsupervised.
  • Monitor program areas for safety hazards and conduct daily safety inspections, reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Comply with all licensing requirements (Title 22) and support the team in meeting them.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.
