About The Position

YWCA is looking for a full-time Assistant Director to be an integral part of our team. This role is responsible for preparing a suitable physical and nurturing environment for all children to grow physically, emotionally, and intellectually. The Assistant Director ensures that the sites meet licensing and all other legal compliance regulations, including those from the Department of Human Services (DHS), Keystone STARS, and the Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). They will also maintain a team atmosphere between sites, assist with CACFP duties, support enrollment processes, and participate in summer camp planning. The position involves covering classrooms when necessary, maintaining a positive atmosphere, and working cooperatively with the Center Director and staff to uphold positive affiliations with local school districts. The Assistant Director must stay familiar with YWCA Lancaster policies, Child Care Manual procedures, and Keystone STARS requirements to ensure program quality, maintain up-to-date child files for DHS compliance, orient new parents and staff, and perform tours and enrollments. Additionally, they will distribute required childcare information, attend staff meetings, maintain a Professional Development Record, assist with staff training and supervision, and enforce center policies. Flexibility regarding staffing needs and adherence to state regulations for scheduling are also key aspects of this role, along with upholding the YWCA mission and cultural values.

Requirements

  • SACC Credential or AA required.
  • 2500 documented hours of experience related to the care of children - required.
  • Must provide documentation of one of the following: 30 college credit hours in the social sciences or education, or 15 college credit hours in education and one (1) year professional experience working with children.
  • SACC Credential, and one (1) year professional experience working with children (1,250 hours).
  • High School diploma and two (2) years professional experience working with children (2,500 hours).
  • Respect for children, parents, and family living situations, as well as the belief in the individuality of each child.
  • As a representative of the YWCA, you are to adhere to and always support the Mission of the YWCA.
  • Written certification of the PA Police Criminal Record Clearance and Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Clearance.
  • Health appraisal and TB test.
  • First Aid, CPR, Fire Safety.
  • 24 hours of professional development per year.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS degree in Early Childhood Education., Child Development, Special Ed., Elementary Ed., or human services field; or a BA/BS degree which includes 30 credits in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a suitable physical and nurturing environment for ALL children so that they may grow physically, emotionally, and intellectually.
  • Ensures that the sites meet licensing and all other legal compliance regulations including Department of Human Services (DHS), Keystone STARS, and Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Maintain a team atmosphere between sites including delegation of daily responsibilities.
  • Assist with CACFP when necessary: order food, supplies, tracks meals, completes enrollment and eligibility forms. Performs food service when necessary.
  • Assists Director at times of enrollment for all programs.
  • Enters enrollment data into Excell spreadsheet and ProCare as needed.
  • Participates in Summer Camp planning and implementation of activities.
  • Covers in classrooms when necessary.
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere, and appropriate interactions between the children, families, and staff within the center.
  • Work cooperatively with the Center Director and staff to uphold a positive affiliation with the School District of Lancaster, and the Penn Manor School District.
  • Stay familiar with all YWCA Lancaster policies and procedures, Child Care Manual procedures, Keystone STARS requirements to ensure program quality.
  • Keep records on children and up-to date child files to ensure DHS compliance.
  • Orient new parents and staff to room and meet with parents when needed.
  • Performs tours and enrollments as required.
  • Distributes required childcare information.
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.
  • Maintain a current Professional Development Record for Keystone Stars.
  • Assists with training and supervision of center staff as requested.
  • Work cooperatively with other YWCA Child Care programs.
  • Enforce center policies with parents, students, and children.
  • Practice flexibility regarding the staffing needs of the center. Schedules staffing for center in accordance with state regulations, as needed.
  • Uphold and demonstrate to all staff, students, parents and children the YWCA mission, and Cultural Values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
