About The Position

The Assistant Director of Career Counseling provides comprehensive career counseling services to students and alumni, addressing issues such as major selection, career changes, occupational information needs, and developmental concerns impacting academic and professional success. This role involves conducting counseling sessions, developing treatment plans, providing clinical services, and maintaining detailed records in an electronic system. The position also entails coordinating individual client services through consultation with program coordinators, referrals to university and community resources, and case follow-up. A key responsibility is administering and interpreting interest and personality assessments, and assisting in the development and delivery of group interventions like psychoeducational groups for undecided students and alumni. The Assistant Director will also provide consultation to university staff, faculty, and parents, and engage in outreach activities to promote career services. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of campus resources, academic programs, and managing the career counseling website are also crucial aspects of this role. Additionally, the position focuses on Disability Career Advising, teaching job search skills and providing advising on disability-related topics, and serving as the campus liaison for the RIT Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP), managing the entire WRP interview process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • Knowledge of career development and planning theory, practices, and techniques.
  • Skill in written, verbal, and interpersonal communication to influence and articulate a variety of topics to different and diverse audiences.
  • Skill in multi-tasking, project management, prioritization, and organization.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy, cultural awareness, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career counseling services for students and alumni, addressing issues from choice of major to developmental concerns.
  • Conduct career counseling sessions, develop treatment plans, provide clinical services, and maintain counseling records.
  • Coordinate individual client's career counseling services, including consultation with program coordinators and referrals.
  • Administer and interpret interest and personality assessments.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of group intervention approaches for career undecided students and alumni.
  • Provide consultation to administrators, advisors, faculty, staff, parents, and others regarding career information.
  • Engage in outreach activities to the university community, including planning, development, and promotion.
  • Maintain counseling records in accordance with professional guidelines.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings, including Office staff meetings and Student Services group meetings.
  • Support office functions for career fairs, interview days, and employer information sessions.
  • Participate in training to maintain or enhance job skills.
  • Maintain and utilize knowledge of campus and community resources, including RIT academic programs.
  • Maintain the career counseling portion of the website with up-to-date occupational and educational resources.
  • Meet with students and alumni with disabilities to teach job search skills and provide advising on disability-related topics.
  • Serve as campus liaison for RIT Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) interviews, managing the advertising, scheduling, preparation, and logistics of these interviews.
  • Develop and deliver customized instruction on job search strategies, career trends, and workplace success through seminars, workshops, and presentations.
  • Communicate with students and alumni regarding employment opportunities, program offerings, recruiting events, and career trends.
  • Market students, academic programs, and university/office services to prospective employers.
  • Identify employment opportunities, establish new employer recruiting partnerships, and support university corporate outreach goals.
  • Ensure positive and effective university and employer recruiting and hiring partnerships.
  • Partner with various divisions to support university initiatives in admissions, alumni relations, global partnerships, research development, and institutional fundraising.
  • Counsel students regarding the employment process and related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $59,000-$64,000 annually.
