About The Position

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Director, Affiliate Programs. In collaboration with the Director of Special Events and Affiliate Programs, the Assistant Director develops strategy and drives revenue and donor engagement for the Affiliate Groups - the David Rockefeller Council, the Contemporary Arts Council, the Black Arts Council, the Young Patrons Council - and other key donors at MoMA with the ultimate goal of increasing overall revenue and advancing members to higher levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years progressively responsible experience in fundraising and development, including significant frontline and in-person solicitation experience, and management of high-net-worth individual donor portfolios. Must also include experience in a supervisory/managerial capacity.
  • Demonstrated success in generating multi-million dollar annual revenue.
  • Proven leadership ability in managing and mentoring a diverse team of fundraising professionals, establishing a results-oriented and high-performance culture.
  • Exceptional diplomatic and communication skills, with extensive experience creating tailored, accurate executive reporting.
  • Experience in strategic international fundraising and international program development.
  • Deep knowledge of and networks across the art world.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends as required.
  • Familiarity with art acquisitions and acquisition committees.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or other donor-management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a diverse team of four development officers to cultivate 750+ donors across MoMA’s Affiliate Groups: The David Rockefeller Council, the Contemporary Arts Council, the Black Arts Council, and the Young Patrons Council.
  • Responsible for a multi-million dollar annual revenue goal from membership dues, endowments, individual gifts and benefit events.
  • Manages, stewards, and grows an individual portfolio of 100+ individual donors for operating support, exhibition and program funding, and acquisitions.
  • Collaborates with the Research department to develop a robust pipeline of prospects for cultivation.
  • Mentors staff and establishes a high-performance culture to drive professional growth in alignment with the Museum’s current and long-term strategy.
  • Expands membership across all Affiliate Groups with a focus on building and retaining diverse, inter-generational donors, audiences, and communities to grow at MoMA.
  • Drives capacity of the Museum through revenue generating strategies such as dues increases, endowment campaigns and fundraising events.
  • Regularly delivers on accurate and effective executive reporting, goal setting, and data sharing, supporting the Director of Special Events and Affiliate Programs, other members of senior management and trustees, while tailoring communication to achieve effective strategic outcomes.
  • Works closely with the Chief of Philanthropy, Chief Curators, the Museum’s Board Leadership, and other Trustees to execute successful acquisitions, campaigns, events, and other priority initiatives, with discretion and diplomacy.
  • Provides strategic counsel and implementation of best practices and Museum bylaws with Trustee Chairs and curators regarding key acquisition funds.
  • Manages capital campaign endowments and coordinates high-level stewardship plans for campaign donors.
  • Plans and collaborates on international fundraising trips and leads cross-departmental initiatives on international strategy.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.
