About The Position

The Assistant Director provides comprehensive academic advising, monitoring, and developmental support to student-athletes at the University of Maryland, College Park. This position works directly with high-profile varsity programs, serving as the primary academic counselor for Women’s Basketball and other Olympic or varsity sport programs (assigned based on department needs). The successful candidate will assist student-athletes in navigating academic progress, degree completion, career planning, and personal development while ensuring strict adherence to University of Maryland, Big Ten Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One (1) year of experience in a professional setting.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administrative structure and responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of athletics policies and procedures and federal, state, and other applicable, related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize within unit and department environment as well manage large-scale athletics-related projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field.
  • Prior experience directly supporting high-visibility or high-demand Division I sports programs (e.g., Men's/Women's Basketball, Football).
  • Active membership in N4A (National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals).
  • Familiarity with student success software and campus systems (e.g., Navigate, Canvas, SIS/Testudo).
