About The Position

WM is hiring an Assistant Diesel Mechanic to help maintain and repair vehicles and equipment serving its customers and communities. The role is based at a repair and maintenance shop at the Wayne, Michigan hauling site and involves working on diesel equipment and, at some locations, CNG trucks. The position offers a starting wage of $32.35 per hour, depending on experience, stable weekday hours, a tool allowance reimbursement of up to $1,500, and a boot allowance of up to $250.

The schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with no weekends. The mechanic works with modern tools and procedures, follows Standard Labor Repair Times and established safety procedures, and assists senior mechanics with project work. Requirements

• Hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Be over 18 years of age.
• Be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
• Estimate labor time and material costs for vehicle repairs and new parts.
• Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
• Respond to emergency service calls for breakdowns.
• Conduct vehicle safety checks.
• Complete required paperwork, document parts usage, and account for repair times.
• Assist senior mechanics in completing project work.
• Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards.
• Perform all work according to established safety procedures.
