About The Position

The Assistant Designer supports the design of J.Crew men's woven shirts and lounge. Working closely with Design Directors, the role contributes to seasonal concepts and color stories and helps develop fabrics, prints, trim, and graphics. The position also prepares presentation boards and works with Technical Design and Production to carry designs from initial concept through production.

Requirements

• 0–2 years of design experience.
• Apparel Design degree.
• Strong illustration skills and demonstrated creative sense.
• Trend and fashion awareness.
• Technical sketching ability, including flats and illustration.
• Working knowledge of garment construction and trim.
• Garment measurement and specification experience.
• Knowledge of lab dips.
• Excellent color sense.
• Self-directed and a team player.
• Ability to multitask.
• Strong written and communication skills.
• Good follow-through and a sense of urgency.
• Demonstrated ability to create creative, focused visual presentations.
• Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Work with Design Directors to create concepts, select color stories, and develop fabrics, prints, trim, and graphics.
• Prepare professional presentation boards with illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication, and garment samples.
• Assist with research into seasonal trends, themes, colors, raw materials, styling, and trims.
• Work with Technical Design to prepare specifications from initial concept through technical design cards.
• Work with Production to maintain the design concept throughout the production process.
