Assistant Designer- J.Crew Men's Woven Shirts & Lounge
About The Position
The Assistant Designer for J.Crew Men's Woven Shirts & Lounge works closely with Design Directors to create concepts, select color stories, and develop fabrics, prints, trim, and graphics. The role prepares professional presentation boards featuring illustrations, CAD artwork, fabrication, and garment samples, and assists with research into seasonal trends, themes, colors, raw materials, styling, and trims. The Assistant Designer works with Technical Design to prepare specifications from initial concept through technical design cards, and with Production to maintain the design concept throughout production.
Requirements
- 0–2 years of design experience.
- Apparel Design degree.
- Strong illustration skills.
- Demonstrated creative sense and ability.
- Trend and fashion awareness.
- Technical sketching ability, including flats and illustration.
- Working knowledge of garment construction and trim.
- Garment measurement and specification experience.
- Knowledge of lab dips.
- Excellent color sense.
- Self-directed and a team player.
- Ability to multitask.
- Strong written and communication skills.
- Good follow-through and a sense of urgency.
- Demonstrated ability to create creative, focused visual presentations.
- Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Responsibilities
- Work with Design Directors to create concepts and select color stories.

- Assist with research into seasonal trends, themes, colors, raw materials, styling, and trims.

- Work with Production to maintain the design concept throughout the production process.
