Assistant Designer, Women’s Off Price, Knits & Sweaters
About The Position
Michael Kors is seeking an Assistant Designer for the Women’s Off Price Knits & Sweaters categories. The role supports the Senior Designer throughout the product design process, translating the Michael Kors aesthetic into seasonal products. Responsibilities include trend, market, and competitive research; development of knit mock-ups and sweater knit downs; creating and updating sketches; and assisting with tech packs in the PLM system. The Assistant Designer attends weekly fittings and collaborates with internal teams and overseas agents on product details and updates. The role is based on a hybrid schedule, requiring work in the New York City office three days per week. The ideal candidate is creative, collaborative, detail-oriented, solutions-oriented, and able to manage workflow and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design.
- Approximately one year of related experience; full-time or freelance experience is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of garment construction.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Experience with flats, technical drawings, and CADs.
- Ability to work in the New York City office three days per week on a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities
- Understand the Michael Kors aesthetic and translate it into seasonal products.
- Support and collaborate with the Senior Designer throughout the product design process for Cut & Sew Knits and Sweaters.
- Conduct seasonal trend, market, and competitive research.
- Support the Senior Designer with seasonal knit mock-ups and sweater knit-down development.
- Create sketches in Adobe Illustrator and update sketches as needed throughout the product lifecycle.
- Assist in creating tech packs, including bills of materials, construction details, and measurement charts, in the PLM system.
- Update tech packs in the PLM system after seasonal touchpoint meetings.
- Attend weekly fittings and take notes or update sketches and tech packs as needed.
- Communicate and collaborate with Sales/Merchandising, Production, and Technical Design teams.
- Communicate regularly and clearly with overseas agents and global cross-functional partners about tech-pack details and style updates.
