About The Position

Assists the designer in creating styles from concept to completion in whatever capacity is necessary. This role involves working with the design team to develop flat sketches, create cohesive concepts each season, and prepare for presentations. The assistant designer will collaborate with the Mens and Womens teams for Concept Presentations and help execute the designer's concepts with critical attention to detail and a sense of urgency to meet all department deadlines. This position manages communications between the design function and non-design team members, fuels a collaborative creative environment, and is interested in learning and continuing the company’s commitment to sustainability initiatives. The role includes creating/managing all BOMS and TPs on the design side, monitoring the development of preproduction samples in partnership with Product Managers, conducting market research to understand industry shifts, and communicating effectively with vendors, product development, and tech teams. The assistant designer will attend fittings to comment and convey the intended fit of each garment and prepare for meetings, organize programs, and communicate style information to merchants and product development. They will also work with Product Managers to monitor lab dip, hand loom, and strike-off approval.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2yr AA Degree preferred in Design/Fashion Merchandising, or equivalent experience.
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Bamboo Rose or PDM training preferred.
  • Timely sense of trends and market direction encompassing color, fabric and silhouette.
  • Working knowledge of garment construction, pattern making, textiles and current finishing techniques and processes.
  • 0-3 years design experience, which includes fabric sourcing, technical design, trim development and color training w/practical experience.
  • Computer PC, MAC and CAD experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
