About The Position

The Assistant Designer is responsible for assisting the Designer in the creation of a fully concepted line for the Sweaters category. This role involves identifying seasonal fashion direction, merchandise trends, and client needs, as well as executing technical packs, preparing presentation boards, and participating in line assortment building. The Assistant Designer will also research trims, prints, and patterns, attend fittings, provide feedback, and ensure designs align with the Conceptual Assortment Plan while staying within development ratios. A key aspect of this role is to continuously develop and increase understanding of the Talbot’s customer. Key partners include: Product Management, Merchandising, Fabric and Color teams, Technical Design, and Vendors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree equivalent in Design
• 1-2 years’ experience in Design
• Creativity and enthusiasm for fashion
• Strong sketching and illustration ability
• Ability to identify color and fashion trends
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel and all other Microsoft Office Applications

Responsibilities

• Assist in identifying seasonal fashion direction, merchandise trends and client needs for the area of responsibility
• Assist in the execution of tech packs, both flat and technical sketches, pitch sheets and trim sheets
• Prepares presentation boards highlighting fabric, flats, and figure sketches. Assists in set up of all Concept presentations
• Participates in line assortment building and line presentations with the goal of creating a cohesive and exciting collection
• Assists in research and development for trims and print and pattern
• Attends all fittings and provides input/feedback as necessary. Keeps detailed notes from all fittings
• Assists in executing designs to the Conceptual Assortment Plan slots while staying within the pre-determined development ratios
• Continues to develop and increase understanding of Talbot’s customer
