About The Position

The Assistant Deli Manager is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned. This role involves following company guidelines for providing quality customer service, ensuring fresh quality merchandise through proper product handling, and assisting the Deli Manager in day-to-day operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service. The position also requires coordinating sales and merchandising plans, monitoring competitor activity, overseeing department inventories, reviewing schedules, and controlling labor costs. Additionally, the Assistant Deli Manager will assist with training, recognizing performance, and developing associate talent. Familiarity with company policies and procedures, including daily checklists and reporting, is essential. The role includes auditing department procedures for receiving, pricing, stock levels, freshness, and quality, enforcing proper record keeping, and evaluating and enforcing sanitation practices. Compliance with company, state, and federal regulations for proper sanitation, food handling, health regulations, safety, weights and measures requirements, and labeling laws is mandatory. Completing required product logs and adhering to safety guidelines while utilizing equipment and utensils are also key responsibilities. The Assistant Deli Manager must ensure a smooth workflow within the department by cooperating with co-workers and superiors, and strive to continuously improve job performance. Staff duties and other job duties as requested by management will also be performed.

Requirements

  • Completed or working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum (2) years’ experience in management in retail/restaurant/supermarket environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follow company guidelines for providing quality customer service by greeting customers with a smile, offering assistance, suggesting alternatives when necessary and thanking them for shopping.
  • Always maintain a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Answer customer questions.
  • Ensure fresh quality merchandise by using proper product handling techniques.
  • Assist with controlling damages and minimizing product losses according to company procedures and standards.
  • Assist Deli Manager in day-to-day functions of deli operations such as merchandising, ad execution, associate engagement, and customer service.
  • Coordinate sales and merchandising plans for the department to ensure proper stock levels and freshness.
  • Monitor competitor activity concerning merchandising, pricing, quality, and comparison signage.
  • Oversee department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports, product orders and supplies to ensure successful period-end physical inventory.
  • Review schedules, work assignments and control labor costs.
  • Assist with training, recognize performance, and develop potential associate talent.
  • Must be familiar with company policies and procedures with respect to operations including daily checklists and reporting.
  • Audit department procedures for receiving, pricing, stock levels, freshness, and quality.
