About The Position

Provides customer service to defendants, including information related to court operations and procedures. Processes court cases; collects and updates defendants’ information into the computer database daily. Assists the Judge during court sessions; verifies docket and updates cases with Judge’s orders; prepares and processes court orders, reviewing and correcting as necessary; verifies and revises closed files; prepares judgements for Judge’s signature. Imports, revises, and processes defendant citations from Laredo Police Department; issues and exports warrants; maintains communication with Department regarding warrants served and received. Performs clerical duties, such as processing summons for other city departments; provides assistant to defendants, both in person and via phone, regarding court dates, fines, and procedures; assists with open records requests. Processes online and kiosk payments from defendants. Assists with trial cases, including those with a jury; communicates with defendants, attorneys, and prosecutors; processes juror notices.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of court procedures and operations
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of basic math and money handling
  • Skilled in English and Spanish languages
  • Skilled in the use of standard office equipment
  • Skilled in the use of computers, word processing, and keyboarding
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service
  • Ability to process work in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to perform routine work

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • At least one (1) year of experience in clerical work and/or data entry
  • Valid Texas Driver License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Court Clerk I Certification must be able to obtain within two (2) years of employment.
