About The Position

Washington County Counsel’s Office provides advice and analysis to County departments and represents the County in civil litigation at local, state, and federal levels, as well as in administrative and enforcement proceedings. We deliver high‑quality legal services and creative solutions at a reasonable cost while adhering to the highest ethical standards. Our office represents the Board of Commissioners, the Sheriff’s Office, and all County departments and employees, along with several County service districts and affiliated entities. As a Senior Assistant County Counsel, you will provide a full range of legal services to assigned County departments. This role includes offering general legal advice and counsel to County elected officials and staff, supporting operations across varied service areas, and representing the County in court proceedings, administrative hearings, contracting matters, and other transactional work. The ideal candidate will have experience in all areas related to land use and public works. While this experience is preferred it is not necessary. The position requires handling complex legal issues with minimal supervision, applying strong problem‑solving and innovative legal thinking, and partnering with clients to create solutions that advance departmental and County goals. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and County leaders. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS or BA)
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited college or university
  • At least seven (7) years of professional legal experience related to the position.
  • Current membership in the Oregon State Bar Association within 30 days of hire.
  • Must pass a background investigation.
