About The Position

The New York City Law Department is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Professional Development in the Executive Division’s Professional and Organizational Development Unit. The Professional and Organizational Development Unit plays a central role in advancing the Law Department’s mission by overseeing a broad portfolio of attorney training and professional growth initiatives that support the development of a highly skilled and effective legal workforce. Assistant Directors evaluate agency wide training needs and coordinate the development, delivery, and assessment of CLE compliant programs aligned with adult learning standards and departmental priorities. They manage Orientation programs for entry and lateral attorneys, coordinate the annual Trial Advocacy program, and lead initiatives that strengthen attorney integration, retention, and engagement. The role also supports leadership development, collaborates with Divisions and City agencies to enhance specialized practice area training, and cultivates external partnerships to expand the Department’s training resources. Key responsibilities include managing core professional development programs such as the Coaching Collaborative, Training Consortium, and Mentoring Program; conducting data analysis to support continuous improvement; advising attorneys on CLE accreditation and compliance; and providing subject matter guidance on the Performance Appraisal Process for Assistant Corporation Counsels. Requirements

  • At least two years of legal experience following graduation from an ABA accredited law school.
  • Current NY Bar membership in good standing.

Responsibilities
