About The Position

The New York City Law Department is seeking admitted attorneys or law school graduates in the process of becoming admitted for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel. The Law Department values excellence, dedication, and a commitment to public interest, aiming to provide the finest legal representation to the City of New York. Attorneys and support professionals collaborate to pursue justice and promote the public good by representing the City, the Mayor, other elected officials, and City agencies in civil litigation and juvenile delinquency proceedings. The department is guided by values including Dedication, Diversity, Excellence, Integrity, Justice, Professional Development, Respect, Supportive Work Environment, and Teamwork. Many openings are in litigating divisions where Assistant Corporation Counsels handle day-to-day state and federal court litigation, including drafting motions, conducting depositions, discovery exchange, settlement negotiations, and court appearances. After orientation, attorneys have the option to work from home through a limited/irregular remote work program or a Citywide pilot program allowing two set remote work days per week, subject to division needs and requiring at least 50% staff coverage. Participants in the pilot program must designate a primary remote work location and understand that in-person appearances for court, client meetings, or other events will require their presence, overriding remote work on those days. This pilot program is currently under evaluation.
