About The Position

At Utah Valley University, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the student experience by supporting student government programs, leadership development, and campus engagement initiatives. In this role, you'll work closely with student leaders as they plan and execute election campaigns, educational initiatives, meetings, and events that help shape campus life. This position offers hands-on experience in leadership development, event coordination, program management, and mentorship, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in higher education, student affairs, public service, or organizational leadership. Working 10 to 15 hours per week, you'll gain valuable professional experience while helping students develop leadership skills and navigate the responsibilities of elected office. Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; OR any combination of education and/or experience totaling four years.
  • Demonstrated skill set centered on group dynamics, mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Project and program management skills including conception, development, implementation, management, and evaluation.
  • Basic technological skills including but not limited to word processing, email communications, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Basic skills in public speaking and presentation to small and large groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, develop, and sustain relationships with others such as campus departments, students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members and contribute to a collaborative environment as a team player.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures and apply them in the appropriate settings.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate one-on-one and group meetings, including the navigation of sensitive subject content such as race, gender, ideologies, etc., and the introduction of new ideas.
  • Ability to adjust to a variable work schedule, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience within higher education, specifically student life and/or student leadership.
  • Knowledge of student government and student body officer elections.
  • One or more years of experience in managing/instructing small groups.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees operations and event facilitation, including the development, coordination, and implementation of programming, training, etc., related to the student body officer elections.
  • Executes various projects related to improving the experience within student government.
  • Advises and mentors student leaders (in consultation with the Director - Student Governance and Affinity) by overseeing the student planning and execution of activities, group meetings, partnerships, and information/education campaigns.
  • Participates in the development of the election packet (ie: rules, resources, etc.).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned, necessary to the success of the Department of Student Leadership and Involvement, including assistance in executing departmental projects/events.
