About The Position

The Assistant Cooker Operator is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of cooking machinery and maintaining product quality. This role involves monitoring temperatures, managing can flow, clearing jams, and conducting regular checks on various equipment including ink jet systems, can drying systems, and product IT and emboss code operations. The operator also ensures printers are functional and product codes are correctly stamped, and gathers samples for laboratory analysis. The position requires the ability to read and interpret technical documents, communicate effectively, perform basic mathematical calculations, and apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as federal and state laws, legal documents, safety rules, operating and procedure manuals.
  • Strong ability to communicate with others with written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work independently as required.

Responsibilities

  • Verify that all guards are in place prior to startup of machines.
  • Ensure that temperature controls are maintained by reviewing requirements prior to start of the cook cycle and monitoring temperature via TID throughout cook cycle.
  • Maintain can flow and remove/clear out jams when the line stops.
  • Conduct periodic checks on machinery & equipment as required, including ink jet operations, can drying/blower systems, product IT and emboss code, and bleeder operations (hourly).
  • Ensure that printers are functional prior to cook cycle and responsible for reviewing that product codes are correctly stamped on cans during the cooking process.
  • Gather samples for laboratory technicians every 4 hours to check chlorine levels.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
