About The Position

The Assistant Cook assists the Cook at Ranch Camp or Timberline with preparing meals for guests and staff at Kidder Creek in a safe manner consistent with Mount Hermon Association’s mission, vision, and values. The position supports menu completion and food preparation, service, and storage, following food-handling procedures to provide safe, nutritious meals and prevent food spoilage or foodborne illness. The Assistant Cook may also help instruct summer staff and students in food preparation, serving, cleanup, and dishwashing methods. This is a Ministerial Support role. Staff in these roles are not required to personally affirm MHA’s Christian mission, vision, and beliefs, but are expected to respect and work in harmony with them, abide by the culture code and standards of conduct, and join gatherings that include prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching. The position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. The role requires a high school education and a Food Handlers Card. Some college is preferred, and food-handling experience is desirable but not required. Candidates should be interested in cooking, eager to learn, observant, attentive, and able to follow instructions and ask questions. Physical requirements include lifting and carrying 35–50 pounds and standing for long periods. Days off may be flexed to meet kitchen demands, and occasional overtime may be required. The employee may be asked to work in another kitchen or ministry area when the assigned kitchen has no meals to prepare. Housing is not provided; optional onsite RV Park space for a fifth wheel or trailer may be available, but is not guaranteed. Employment requires satisfactory completion of a background investigation or a valid work permit, and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
