About The Position

The Assistant Cook position at TRI-VALLEY LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is responsible for preparing and serving meals while maintaining high standards for quality service and customer satisfaction. This role also involves maintaining a sanitary and orderly kitchen environment. The position requires 6.5 hours per day, which is considered a full-time role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
  • A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
  • Food production skills and the ability to use commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Successful completion of a board-approved food safety and sanitation course.
  • Ability to comply with nutrition, health, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
  • Meets all prerequisite qualifications to be bonded.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Performs prescribed activities efficiently with limited supervision.
  • Reacts productively to interruptions and changing conditions.
  • Effectively uses listening, observation, reading, verbal, nonverbal, and writing skills.
  • Completes paperwork accurately and verifies and correctly enters data.

Responsibilities

  • Checks with the head cook for assignments and/or instructions.
  • Follows all directions and seeks advice when expectations are unclear.
  • Performs routine tasks independently.
  • Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures.
  • Supports parent/community partnerships that enhance district programs.
  • Uses products and supplies carefully to control costs and reduce waste.
  • Advises the head cook about the need for additional inventory.
  • Follows approved receiving and storage procedures to ensure food safety.
  • Assists with receipt of deliveries and verifies quantities.
  • Reports shortages, spoilage, or inferior products.
  • Organizes, stores, dates, and rotates stock as directed.
  • Follows the published menus and ensures compliance with all food preparation regulations.
  • Uses standardized recipes to maintain quality control and monitors production sheets.
  • Helps other staff as needed to meet established schedules.
  • Recommends menu modifications in response to customer requests.
  • Sets up serving lines and presents food in an attractive way.
  • Replenishes supplies to maintain an orderly flow of customers.
  • Monitors portion size to ensure compliance with district specifications.
  • Provides substitute menu items as needed.
  • Properly stores or disposes of leftover food.
  • Operates the cash register as directed and does not leave it unattended.
  • Helps account for all lunches and uses cafeteria receipts to prepare bank deposits.
  • Makes deposits and submits daily records to the treasurer’s office as directed.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
  • Monitors kitchen safety and ensures that kitchen supplies and equipment are properly stored.
  • Identifies maintenance needs and notifies the head cook.
  • Promptly documents all injuries that require medical attention.
  • Cleans, washes, and sanitizes equipment and food preparation areas.
  • Learns how to operate fire and safety equipment.
  • Helps prepare for fire, health, and safety inspections.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Assists with special district events as directed.
  • Assists rental groups as directed and secures the kitchen and storage areas.
  • Reports student discipline problems, vandalism, and other related concerns.
  • Takes precautions to ensure safety and watches for conduct that may indicate a problem.
  • Works with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior.
  • Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect as required by law.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
  • Accepts personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Wears appropriate work attire and maintains a neat appearance.
  • Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
