About The Position

Hospitality Services is responsible for the planning, coordinated development, management and implementation of food, nutrition and environmental activities, programs, services and initiatives to the residents of a municipal long term care facility. You are responsible for assisting the cook in preparing all food served, including general menu, special diets, meals-on-wheels, and Day Care Resident's meals, with an emphasis on resident safety and engagement. Work is performed in accordance with Public Health regulations, Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 and Food Premises Act.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade ten (10) and the Assistant Cook Certification program (15 weeks)
  • One (1) year of Cooking experience at an institution, health care, restaurant, or hospitality setting or related organization
  • Knowledge of the Canada Food Guide, Ontario Public Health Act (Health Protection and Promotion Act: Food Premises), Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Food Premises and the “Sanitation Code” for Canada’s Food Industry.
  • Preparation of bulk food
  • Preparation and cooking of vegetables, meat, fish and poultry, soups and sauces
  • Elementary dessert preparation
  • General knowledge of buffet preparation
  • Preparatory methods of entrees
  • Food Inventory Control
  • Knowledge of safe operations of kitchen tools
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) with the Police Services.
  • You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
