The Opportunity: Harding Medical is searching for an Assistant Controller to join our Halifax team in Nova Scotia. This role supports the Vice President, Finance by delivering high-quality financial analysis, business insights, and controllership support. The successful candidate will play a key role in financial reporting, planning, and decision-making, while also strengthening internal controls and improving operational efficiency. Requirements

  • Undergraduate business degree/diploma with a concentration in Finance or Accounting.
  • 3+ years experience with a solid understanding of accounting practices
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of products. Specifically, advanced Excel skills, comfortable creating and analyzing complex financial models and spreadsheets.
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills and the ability to commit to, and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, analyze, and problem solve complex issues
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently, orally and in writing, to a wide scope of potential audiences

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience using Prophet 21 software and/or Crystal Reports is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support and execute monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and consolidated financial statements.
  • Deliver timely and accurate management reports and financial analysis.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Partner with business leaders to provide insights into financial performance and cost management opportunities.
  • Coordinate and support the annual external audit process and ensure readiness of supporting documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and financial processes.
  • Identify process improvements, system enhancements, and cost reduction opportunities in collaboration with Finance, IT, and leadership.
  • Provide oversight and support for key operational finance activities, including accounts receivable, expense management systems, and other administrative financial processes.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts across locations and prepare detailed variance analysis.
  • Partner with corporate finance to ensure timely submission of financial reports and operational deliverables.
  • Support variable compensation processes (e.g., commission calculations, target setting) and provide ad hoc analysis to senior leadership.
